BambooHR and AI
Bring your BambooHR data into the AI tools your team already uses. Ask questions in plain language, generate reports, and handle routine HR tasks without leaving Claude or ChatGPT.
How it fits together
BambooHR's AI integrations are built on an open standard called the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Think of MCP as a common language between AI assistants and the systems that hold your data. We use it as the foundation so the same secure connection can serve more than one AI tool.
During the beta, here's how to connect:
- Claude connector is the most polished path and what we recommend starting with. You add BambooHR to Claude as a custom connector, sign in once, and start chatting with your data.
- ChatGPT app is available to a smaller beta group. Support for ChatGPT is newer, so setup has an extra step and behavior can vary more. The page walks you through it.
- BambooHR MCP server is the foundation underneath both. Direct connections from other MCP-compatible tools are on our roadmap. For now, the connectors above are the way in.
What you can do
The exact experience depends on the AI tool you connect, but the underlying capabilities are the same:
- Look up employee info, time off balances, and reporting structures
- Search and filter employees by department, location, manager, or custom field
- Pull reports and datasets for analysis or summarization
- Manage time off requests, goals, and employee data, when your permissions allow it
Who it's for
These integrations are designed first for HR admins with full access to company data. They also work for managers (limited to their direct reports) and individual contributors (limited to their own info), with permission boundaries matching what each role sees inside BambooHR.

Security and access
All paths respect BambooHR's existing permissions model. Users can only see and act on data they're already authorized to access. Authentication uses OAuth, so credentials never leave BambooHR's login screen. For details on how access works inside each integration, see the individual pages linked above.
